EQUIPMENT MATERIAL SELECTION AGAINST FEEDSTOCK CONTAINING CHLORIDE (1)

    In case of evaporators or crystallizers applied for seawater treatment, the fabrication material is suggested to be titanium due to strong corrosion of chloride. Below is about the performance comparison of seawater resistance between pure Ti and Ti-Pd alloy, which helps in selecting suitable material for evaporators and crystallizers. 

    The salinity of seawater is usually less than 5%. According to long-term experiment and actual use, it is believed that pure Ti can be safely used with seawater at temperature lower than  120℃, but crevice corrosion may occur in case a further increase in temperature, and pitting corrosion may happen if the temperature continues to rise.

    The application range of Ti in sodium chloride solution at different concentration , different Ph value and different temperature is as following Figure:

    Moreover,  the Ti-Pd alloy (Ti-0.2Pd，Grade 7, TA9) and the Ti-Ni-Mo alloy (Ti-Grade-12, TA10) are able to be applied to pressurized seawater at high temperature (260℃) .
